Why does Framer perform well by default?

Framer performs well by default because it ships pre-rendered HTML from a global CDN, auto-converts images to AVIF/WebP, applies Brotli compression, and lazy-loads below-the-fold media — so a Framer site starts optimized without the builder configuring anything. There’s no caching plugin to install, no image pipeline to set up, no CDN to bolt on; it’s handled at the platform level.

That’s the core reason Framer scored a median mobile 90 in our sample: the performance defaults do work that, on other platforms, the builder has to do manually.

Why does WordPress performance vary so much?

WordPress performance varies more than Framer or Webflow because its speed depends on hosting quality, theme weight, plugin count, and caching setup — so a well-optimized WordPress site on managed hosting can be fast, while a plugin-heavy site on shared hosting is often slow. In our sample, WordPress showed the widest spread of any platform, reflecting how much its outcome depends on configuration rather than defaults.

This is the key nuance the platform debate usually misses: WordPress isn’t inherently slow, but it makes speed the builder’s responsibility, and that responsibility is often unmet. Framer and Webflow move more of that work to the platform.

Does load time actually matter for a marketing site?

Yes — load time directly affects both SEO (Core Web Vitals are a Google ranking signal) and conversion (slower pages bounce more visitors before they act), so a platform’s default speed has real business impact, especially for paid traffic. For a marketing site whose job is to convert, the platform that starts fast protects both rankings and cost-per-acquisition.

This is why the default matters as much as the ceiling: any platform can be tuned to be fast in expert hands, but the one that’s fast by default wins for the majority of sites that don’t get expert performance tuning.

Methodology and limitations

This study measured 45 comparable marketing sites (15 per platform) on Framer, Webflow, and WordPress in the first half of 2026, using field data (Chrome UX Report) and lab data (PageSpeed Insights / Lighthouse) for median mobile score, LCP, and Core Web Vitals pass-rate. Sites were matched by page type to keep the comparison fair, and identified from public showcases, platform galleries, and agency portfolios. Limitations: sample sizes, site categories, and hosting differences affect results, and this measures real-world sites as built, not identical pages rebuilt on each platform. We report medians to limit outlier effects; the Webflow and WordPress pass-rates here are consistent with public Core Web Vitals datasets that place Webflow well ahead of shared-hosting WordPress.
